4 years after buying my first Mac ever he decided it was time to put our relationship on a higher -well actually hotter – level. Due to the incredible amount of heat he produces right now (repair would cost as much as a new one) I thought it is about time to think of a new generation MacBook (pro). Now while writing and realizing that is really was 4 years ago when I bought my dear white fella I think it’s quite ok to buy a new one now.

Living on the cloud

When I started using my mac I swore to never ever go back to Windows operating computers and intend to leave it that way. Nevertheless, in a time where we live in a cloud, I wonder if the OS really is that important. After all, Big G(oogle) and many others offer us a huge variety of services online (even for free). Many of those services make programs like MS Word (or the Apple pendant iWork) redundant.

I really love(d) my MacBook even though the Apple service itself sucks pretty much and there is almost no chance to ever get an answer on a non-paying way from Apple. The product itself (the MacBook) is awesome though. But despite all awesomeness Apple still stays on top of the price list making it one of the most expensive computers on the market. And while I still stick to my “no MS computers” rule I wonder if there are any alternatives. Being a huge google user (from mail over docs to  whatever…you name it) I do make most of my living in the cloud and am thinking of giving another OS (a netbook maybe) a try.

This leads me to one question to you guys (fellow nerds out there): Does the notebook itself still matter? Or do I simply need a decent “online machine”?

(yeah yeah, depends on what I do, I know. Just assume that I do not need many awesome photoshop-like programs or stuff like that).

Update 1: frustration

Alright now. I decided to go with another Apple product due to the fact that my last MacBook lasted almost 4 years. And since I pretty much know what I can expect there is still one thing that annoys me everytime I order in an onlineshop. Why doesn’t it say, when I want to order: “Sascha wait….the stuff you want to order is available at the store close to you….do not wait 14 days for us to ship it, simply pick it up in our apple store…”?

I know those two are different logistical organization…but what the hell do I as customer care? This would be simply nice. Go get your databases connected and increase the customer experience. This is at least the buzzword you are always talking about….
